Members of the FAM Committee collaborated with TAG's Jackie Huang to develop this month's Lunch & Learn: Infertility Diagnosis & Treatment. This topic reflects our continuing creative pursuits in the realms of work, family, and member support. Event description:

Presentation followed by Q&As. After will be a small breakout with members who wish to share or hear about member experiences with infertility. *Partners welcome. -- The decision to start a family is a joyous milestone for most couples, but can lead to disappointment if pregnancy isn’t achieved. While infertility affects a small percentage of couples, the risk can increase with age. UCLA Health Ob/Gyn, Dr. Connie Cheng, discusses the common causes of infertility, when to seek help, and the latest treatments available.

Family Leave is GOOD FOR COMPANIES & SOCIETY

These Thursday TED Talks highlight how

supporting families brings more equality & diversity to the workplace...

Parenting is Real Work:

What if we started treating parenting like the real work it is? Podcast host and CEO Angela Garbes details how working families have evolved -- and how companies haven't -- and gives insight into what parents really need from their colleagues and workplaces.

Paternity Leave for Dads benefits EVERYONE:

Paternity leave has many benefits for dads, their partners and their babies -- but did you know it also has surprising benefits for companies? This is what author Shu Matsuo Post learned from his seven transformative months of paternity leave -- and he says it can create more equal and diverse workplaces and even boost productivity.

PL+US and Seth Rogan support Paid Leave

Paid Family and Medical Leave

is the talk of the town -

from Hollywood to Washington, D.C.

As the only industrialized nation in the world without a national paid family leave policy, the U.S. was already behind when COVID-19 hit. Now, we have a chance to make things right.

Lauren and Seth Rogan's recent opinion piece for CNN makes one thing clear: We need to yell and scream for paid family and medical leave!

Their call to action follows the massive TV and digital campaign launched by PL+US this month to urge Congress to prioritize and pass paid family and medical leave in the American Rescue Plan. Want to get involved? Learn more about the campaign and sign up for the PL+US mailing list here: paidleave.tv And, support IATSE and The Animation Guild to establish job-protected, paid family and medical leave for all.

Family Leave Expands in California

PROGRESS ON THE FAMILY LEAVE FRONT:

Starting in January 2021, families in California may breathe a little easier, reports Politico. That's when California Senate Bill 1383 goes into effect.

SB 1383 extends job-protected (unpaid) leave to businesses with five or more employees and expands the definition of qualifying family members to include siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.

“Californians deserve to be able to take time off to care for themselves or a sick family member without fearing they’ll lose their job,” says Governor Gavin Newsom. “The COVID-19 pandemic has only further revealed the need for a family leave policy that truly serves families and workers, especially those who keep our economy running."

Next step: paid family leave.
